1861 census look up for New Monkland .....

I have the Mc Gills in 1841 under Gill and Anns mother is there too Ann Flanagan. Been a great experience hunting them all down. Have the Mc Gills up to 1881 and then lost George and Ann after that. Wondered if they went to Ohio too???

Hi Margaret,
Have you checked the death record of the George McGill who died in New Monkland in 1884? I know his age (73) is a bit off, at least according to the census Jack posted, but maybe it's him?

Hi Jack no that is not my George. Downloaded that one a few years ago and it wasnt mine. Dont know where they went.

Hi Margaret,
Do you have Hugh's birth record? Could this possibly be him in Canada in 1901?

North Cypress, MacDonald, Manitoba
McGill Hugh, head, born 24 May 1844 in Scotland, he is 45, came to Canada in 1889, he is a farmer... what was his profession in 1881?
___ Flora, wife, born 27 April 1867 in Ontario, she is 24

There IS a Hugh in Ohio, if you'd prefer... a stonemason. His age is off, but it is also hard to read. That one was born in July in what looks like 1855, so doesn't look good.

Maybe they went to Australia?

I'd be happy to pass this one over to the folks down under

HelloI have Hughs death in Scotland. He was a coalminer.

Doubt very much if the old folks went to Australia. My guess is they went back to Ireland. So no sign of Felix on the early censuses?? Must have come between 1851 and 1859 when he married. Will probably never know which part of ireland he came from.

How about the other children? Did they stay in Scotland or go elsewhere? I'm just thinking that the obvious thing for the parents to do was to go where their children were. It may well be that they went back to Ireland, though. Hope you find them one day.
