names .....

Post by Elizabeth » Sun Jun 12, 2005 4:39 pm

Hello,
I'm really stuck. I've got Alexander Paterson DOB 3-1-1814 in Crawford Lanark. He married Margaret Russell on 29-4-1838 in Rathven, Banff. Margaret was born in 1817 in Maylockhead, Dumfries.
So you can see I've got a problem!
The infformation I have I got from the IGI index, but when I went on to Scotlands People I couldn't find out anythin at all.
I'm frustrated and hope someone can help me.

Hullo Elizabeth

If you do a parent search in the International Geneological Index, you will find a long list of children born to an Alexander PATERSON and a Margaret RUSSELL, in Crawford, Lanarkshire, at dates that fit in with a 1838 mariage. Might be worth having a look at some of them, since their eventual mariages would be in the SP statuary records.

Taking three names from the list of the Family search results, I found a Margaret PATERSON m David MILLER ON 28 jUNE 1867
Agnes PATERSON m William VEITCH 17 March 1865
Jane PATERSON m John STEWART 30 jUNE 1865.
All were married in CRAWFORD;
Might be worth doing an SP mariage search for one or other.

Hope this helps a little. Don't hesitate to ask more questions.

All the best
Catriona

Hi Betty

Given the other locations I'm a bit doubtful about your marriage in Rathven, Banff. Could just be another couple with the same names.

Researching M(a)cKenzie, McCammond, McLachlan, Kerr, Assur, Renton, Redpath, Ferguson, Shedden, Also Oswald, Le/assels/Lascelles, Bonning just for starters

Hi Betty,

Found this note in one of my drafts folders -

Nothing that adds to your PATERSON family, and might all be just coincidence.

James HADDOW's wife is Mary RUSSELL (b Wanlockhead).
Children with them in 1861, all born Leadhills, were,
Margaret 9, John 7, William 5, Archibald 3, James 1.

Next door to James HADDOW in 1861 is a Janet GRIERSON 66, b Wanlockhead.
With her is son Robert 25 b Leadhills & wife Hannah RUSSELL 24 b Airdrie with children Margaret 3 & Janet S 2.

ps, much, much later! from FreeCen.
Another two children, and if David was a lawful son then his parents were married abt 1836.
