1841 (or earlier) Wigtownshire .....

Post by HeatherV » Thu Dec 23, 2004 11:33 pm

I am looking for some help on a census if anyone has access. I've been tracing Fulton's from Ayrshire back to New Luce, Wigtown. As of the early 1800's this is what I know :

John FULTON m. Janet FAIRLIE

Children
William FULTON b. 1802 at New Luce
Jean FULTON b. 1805 at New Luce
Janet FULTON b. 1807 at New Luce
Robert Fulton b. 1815 at New Luce

I am trying to find out where John FULTON and Jane FAIRLIE were from
and would expect that that would appear on a census. Have tried IGI and also Scotland's People but have not had any luck because, in John's case in particular there seem to be so many John FULTON'S and I can't determine which is the right one without another clue.

Thanks very much for any and all advice !!!!

Regards,

Heather

Heather

There are transcriptions of the 1851 census for Dumfriess-shire, Kircubgrightshire, and Wigtonshire (where New Luce parish is) on the Ewart Library site at http://www.dumgal.gov.uk/services/depts ... search.asp

The 1841 census is of less help as the only info given on place of birth is the answer "Y" or "N" to the question "Born in the county?", or "I" and "E" for Ireland and England; or "F" for Foreign.................

Hello HeatherK !

I'm in Colchester. Just outside Truro to be specific. I noticed your name as well here in Nova Scotia. I guess you are getting ready for the snow as well ?

It seem to happen regularly with this site, especially over weekends and holidays.

I've just now (08:55 GMY 27/12) tried accessing the site at more basic levels in case this deep link to the census area was causing a problem (even although I don't recall such a problem previously), but still get the dreaded "Network Error Unable to request URL from host www.dumgal.gov.uk:80 through proxy server null:0: Connection refused" message.
