A little odd.....

Post by Lizzie » Tue Jun 21, 2005 1:16 pm

In searching for this family I have come up with zero to date, Perhaps someone might suggest an answer to this?

Jessie Mackintosh was born in Alvah 8th October 1802. The year is taken from a will.
She married Charles George 1826, Manse at Grange. She died 1878 in Elgin age 77. Death cert says father was a farmer.
The IGI has two William MacKintosh's marrying two Anne Innes. One 1724, the other June 1773. Looking for children of the latter there are three. First born 1774 - next, 1776, last 1787. 12 years after the last child?
Which brings us back to Jessie who is born 1802?

It makes no sense to me.

Hello Lizzie,

You most probably have this from the FREECEN site but here is Jessie and family in 1841. The age she gives suggests she was born before 1802.

Hi Lizzie,

I found this extracted entry on the IGI:
Charles George m Jessy Mcintosh 06 Jan 1829, Keith, Banff, Scotland.

There were actually four children of William Mcintosh and Anne Innes, all extracted 1774,76,78 and 87. The big gap could be because records have not survived or not been transcribed, also registration was not compulsory then. There were two entries on the IGI for the William Mcintosh/Anne Innes 1773 marriage. One extracted, the other a submission. I searched the batch no. for this submitted one, and there were about 250 McIntoshes. I don't know very much about the submitted IGI entries, but it looks like someone has done a lot of research on this Mcintosh family. Mayby someone else can tell you how, or if you can, find out who this researcher is.

Hay, Hannah, - Kirkcudbright.
McIntosh, McQuaters/McWatters, White, - Kilmarnock
Murdoch, Hope, McMillan - Muirkirk

Thank you Annette, I was sent this copy of the 1841 census late last year. The 8 year old William here is my gg grandfather who died in Melbourne Australia at age 31 in 1864.

Karen, thank you also for all your information which is very interesting indeed. I know nothing of the IGI submissionseither, but would dearly love to hear how one goes about finding who this searcher was of whom Karen speaks?

There must be someone who knows how I go about this?

Hullo Lizzie!

To find out who is searching a particular member of your family, go to www.familysearch.com
Once there click on Ancestry File. Enter given and surnames, approximate date and the country. Click on the search button. Choose one of the options which appear and click on it. On the page which appears, you will see "Submitter" and over on the right hand side "Details". Click on that button. and the list of submitters should appear/
Just one word of warning. The addresses are not necessarily up to date. I contacted one of my submitters only to discover that he had died several years before. However his widow and I have kept up a useful and most pleasant contact ever since.

Hope this information proves useful to you.

All the best for your research

Hi Catriona,

I did as you suggested, found whom I thought to be the submitter.
Her name was Gael A. Thompson from N.Z. I wrote her a few days ago and this morning received an answer from her husband, she died two years ago after battling Cancer for three years.

You were right, but I feel badly for having contacted her/him

That was very sad about Gael Thompson. I can understand your feelings about havig written in these circumstances. How kind of her husband though to reply to your letter. He might appreciate a note expressing how you feel.

All the best

Hi Catriona,

I did that right away. In his reply to me he said he has all the paperwork on what I was contacting Gael about and would be most willing to look up whatever I need if I wish.
Idid not refer to this when I apologised for my intrusion, but maybe I will later.

I cannot believe how kind he was.

Lizzie

It sounds as if Gael's husband would be genuinely happy to help.
