Need help finding 1851 record...

Post by heymarky » Thu Jan 24, 2008 7:46 am

Rummaging through old search results from ancestry, I have found:

Parish: Glasgow Govan
County: Lanarkshire

George DYER age 38, born Girvan, Ayr (head) spouse Annie

There are also Robert, George and David DYER who are nephews. (I don't know for sure they are the same household, but I'm guessing they are.

In a post from Jack responding to an earlier request from me:
Jack wrote: 1851 census 644-1 (570) Ed 5 p 18 (St James)
9 Great Dowhill....[same address as John Leckie in 1861]
James DYER, head, 41, Night Police Constable, b Kilwinning, AYR [would this occup fit the 1857 DC?]
Ann DYER, wife 32, ---------------------------b ? Ireland ?
Mary DYER, daur, 13, scholar, b Glasgow, LKS
George DYER, son, 10, scholar, b Glasgow, LKS
David DYER, son, 3, -------------b Glasgow, LKS
Henry DYER, son, 1, -----------b Glasgow, LKS
--
1861 census 644-10 Ed 79 p 4 (Hutchesontown)
3 Salisbury Street.
George DYER, head, 48, Labourer in Ship Yard, b Girvan, AYR
Annie DYER, wife, 43, ---------------------------b Glasgow
George DYER, nephew, 18, Hammerman, b Glasgow
David DYER, nephew, 12, Rivet Boy or Heater, b Glasgow
Robert DYER, nephew, 8, scholar, b Glasgow
It seems quite likely that the George Dyer and his nephews are the ones I'm interested in (won't be the first time I found family reported at two addresses in the same census.) but I cannot find this record in the SP 1851 census index.

Got excited when i found a 'george' 'Dy*' living with another george in LANARK, but they ended up being in AIRDRIE. :(

Can anyone help me find this record in the SP index so I can get a look at it? (I suppose I could get some pay-per-views from ancestry, but I already have some credits on SP)

Cheers and thanks,
Marky

Hi Marky,

I searched hor Henry Dyer, age 1, in Glasgow, and he showed up with no problem. Then I went back and checked for George Dyer, age 10, in Glasgow. He also shows up with no problems.

All the best,

AndrewP

Hi Andrew,

Thanks for checking.

I have this batch:
Heymarky wrote that Jack wrote:1851 census 644-1 (570) Ed 5 p 18 (St James)

James DYER, head, 41, Night Police Constable, b Kilwinning, AYR [would this occup fit the 1857 DC?]

David DYER, son, 3, -------------b Glasgow, LKS
Henry DYER, son, 1, -----------b Glasgow, LKS
I'm trying to find 38 year-old George, and my old search results from ancestry (which I just tried unsuccessfully to duplicate :( ) leads me believe his nephews are there with him in '51 as well as '61.

Just noticed that in my previous 1851 census search results from ancestry, nephew Robert was born in 1853...

So it looks like I've erroneously put the 1861 records under 1851...

Andrew, (and anyone else who spent time on this)

Sorry to have wasted your time.
