CLARK

Post by ennael » Mon Jan 28, 2008 11:48 pm

I am hoping that someone can please do a look up on the 1851 census.
CLARK
John ploughman
Elizabeth nee COUTTS
Peter (ploughman by 1865 marriage)
Thomas
Isabella
Annie
Elizabeth.

Peter, aged 2 , is listed on the 1841 Census as living at Cookshill, Kildrummy with his mother Elizabeth aged 25, grandmother Elisabeth COUTS aged about 70 and a 1/2 brother James LAWSON aged 6. No sign of John CLARK.
Thanking you for your help in this matter,
Leanne

Hi Leanne
..and a warm welcome to Talking Scot. :D

This must be them on Freecen in 1841 as you mentioned above:
Piece: SCT1841/208 Place: Kildrummy -Aberdeenshire Enumeration District: 3
Civil Parish: Kildrummy Ecclesiastical Parish, Village or Island: -
Folio: 3 Page: 3
Address: Cookshill
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
COUTTS Elisabeth F 70 Independent Aberdeenshire
CLARK Elizabeth F 25 Ag Lab Aberdeenshire
LAWSON James M 6 Ag Lab Aberdeenshire
Page: 3/4 CLARK Peter M 2 Aberdeenshire
I'm not sure if the 1851 for this area is on Freecen yet, but it would seem that it is, though perhaps the family or Peter may have moved.

- have you tried there? http://www.freecen.org.uk/
The 1851 is also available at Scotlands People. Have you tried there?

If you have any problems finding them, just yell and we'll try to help. :D

Best wishes
Lesley

Thankyou for your prompt reply. I have tried FREECEN but the family is not listed there yet for 1851, that is where I got the 1841 info from. Thankyou for the tip re: scotlandspeople I will try them.
Thankyou, Leanne

Hi Leanne
Using the free search on Scotlands People there does seem to be a 12yr old Peter Clark in Aberdeenshire. He is not in Kildrummy, but Towie. Towie is not on Freecen yet. Don't know for sure if it is your one or not, though, as I don't have enough credits to check the page. (pay day is still a few days away... )

By age 12 it is quite likely he is not living at home, but working and living elsewhere, so it is possible you may not find the rest of his family with him.

Best wishes
Lesley

Hi Leanne/Lesley

The Peter Clark at Clashmewnie, Towie on the 1851 Ancestry (b. Kildrummy) is showing as son, with

John Clark, 34 yrs, Farm Servant b. Towie.
Mary Clark, 24 yrs
Twins Ann & Thomas, 7 yrs
Helen 1 yr.

Given the age differences between the children, and the husband and wife, could be a 2nd (or even 3rd) marraige?

Regards

Ellen.
