What would you conclude? Simpson - Kinross

Post by caljam371 » Sat Mar 01, 2008 12:26 pm

An ancestor of mine appears in the 1841 - 1881 census' with his age consistantly suggesting he was born in 1812 (+/- 1 year) in Orwell, Kinross. I can't find any William Simpsons born there then (checked SP & Familysearch) but there are William's born in 1822, 1824 and 1826.

As William married in 1837 I would presume that the 1822 one is most likely (age 16 when he married) and that he was 10 years out with his age - or was his birth missed out/went missing? :?

Have you found a death certificate for him. Hopefully that could name hiis parents for you, and maybe lead towards one of the births you have located.

Assuming I looked at the correct OPR marriage on the IGI, then his wife's death certificate is easily tracked down on ScotlandsPeople. Christina/Christian (use Christ*) Simpson / Low.

All the best,

AndrewP

Not as yet.

The only death in Kinross area after 1881 was not my William. Without spending a fortune I don't have checking all deaths of William's born around then I'm not sure how to find him.

Just found his wife death - Portmoak in 1893

Hi Caljam371
Just found his wife death - Portmoak in 1893
Does his wife's death indicate that she is "wife of" or "widow of" - either should help you narrow down the possible date of death for William, either after 1893 or between 1881 - 1893. The wife should still be around in 1891 census - is she a widow by then?

Best wishes
Lesley

"Christina Simpson Married to William Simpson Hand loom weaver"

Presuming he is still alive there are 35 William Simpson's born 1806-1826 who died after 1893 on SP.
0 in Kinross, Perth or Dundee
6 in Fife.

I need more credits
