Hello..to everyone...searching Camerons .....

Post by Kristina Cameron » Wed Jun 29, 2005 12:02 pm

:D :D :D :D :D
Its so nice to finally reach Scotland...I feel like I have been around the world in a balloon without helium :)
I have finally found my GGGfather Robert Cameron who is on the 1871 as been born in yes SCOTLAND but where I dont know..I am taking a wild guess and would say Inverness so if anyone can help me find any information to start me off on my next venture..I would be very grateful.
I am a Cameron 1st generation born in New Zealand and I am thrilled to be here..

My details are..
Robert Cameron b 1832 married not sure when
Christina ????? 1838 born in Scotland ????
they had a son born in Scotland also
James Cameron 1857
I havent found James in the 1861 and 1881 1891 not sure if he came back to Scotland...
They left Scotland between 1858 and 1862 as there next daughter Catherine was born 1862 in lancs/liverpool
William (GG) 1868 lancs
Christina 1870 lancs
I couldnt find them in the 1861 census in lancs found them in 1871 but now in the 1881 found my GGGRobert in 1891 aged 59 he died 1898 in Liverpool

If anyone can help me and provide me with a compass ..I would be very grateful...I just need a stepping stone... :D

Kindest regards
Kristina Cameron

The IGI [http://www.familysearch.org ] has a James Cameron:

JAMES CAMERON
Birth: 09 OCT 1858 High Church, Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland
Parents:
Father: ROBERT CAMERON Mother: CHRISTINA MCKINNON
Messages:
Extracted birth or christening record

Those Parents were married:

ROBERT CAMERON
Marriages: CHRISTINA MCKINNON 19 AUG 1853 Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland

2 other children show up for them:
GEORGE CAMERON - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Birth: 27 DEC 1856 High Church, Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland
ADAM CAMERON - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Birth: 28 MAR 1855 Calton, Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland

All 3 of the births should be on the Scotlandspeople site. The 1855 one should give you a lot more information.

If these are in fact your Camerons.

Thank you for that ..and so fast a response too...

I havent seen the 2 other children born in Scotland on any of the other census...but since there is such a gap between James and Catherine of nearly 5 years ..I am beginning to wonder  and I cant find any of the family in 1861, and 1881...
I will keep this in mind but the names dont seem like they are related to any of the next 3 generations I have......It seems to be a tradition to use William, Christina, James , John and Alexander..
Thank you so much for your reply...you have laid the foundation of my first stone...

Kindest regards

Hi Kristina,

Just to say i can't see your family in the 1861 Glasgow census.

As Wilma says - if Adam IS a son, then that 1855 BC will give a lot of information. Like age of parents & where born, marriage date and how many children they have (if any) living or dead. Also Robert's occupation.

Always the sad possibility that Adam & George may have died quite young.

The BCs of George 1856 & James 1858 won't show when parents married, but might be worth checking to see if they were both born at the same High Church Parish address.

Hi Kristina,

There are these Liverpool births in the IGI - parents Robert CAMERON & Christina (no surname).
But seems there's been a CAMERON family in the area for a good number of years.

:D :D :D :D :D

Thank you so much for doing that for me..
Where do you get all that information from ?????
I am on Ancestery.com and I dont get anywhere near all that info..
Your kindness is overwhelming..

How do I get to the 1855 census...
James was born in 1857 so with a definite on him I could search for him also and as you said Adam

It wouldnt surprise me that I have missed the other two births Adam and Hugh...I have just searched my mothers side and I found my grandmother...... all in one year lost a child who was 2..a husband and another son still born
I will keep hunting and search for the above family..

The Robert born in 1872 is not the Robert I am looking for....He was a definite on 1900 birth

Kindest regards

Scottish birth Death and Marriage certificates from 1855 onwards can be obtained from http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/ they have the census records 1871, 1881, 1891, 1901 too and many of the old Parish Records from pre 1855 too.

Looking at www.familysearch.org and http://freecen.rootsweb.com/cgi/search.pl can be of great help too.

And of course the members of Talking Scot are only too happy to help out as and when they can

Happy Hunting Kristina :)

:D :D :D :D

Thank you WilmaM that is great information.
I am starting to see the 'big' picture now..
Actually in my last post said I have a definite on Robert brn 1900 but he is from my ggfather William born in 1868...I gather he was named Robert from the death of my GGGfather Robert in 1898
I am sorry for doubting the other Robert in 1872 as he could have been born after the 1871 census.....that is where I see the rest of the family and not the Robert mentioned in 1872 as he wasnt born.....and I cant see the rest of the family in 1881 census.....I am now beginning to see the picture....
My Father is from a family of 8 children starting from 1913...I think we come from a long line of "big familys"
I stopped at 2

Thank you, once again... :D

Kindest regards

Hi Kristina

Do you have the occupations of your GG-GF Robert & son James? This is to try and find them on the 1881 census.
Have you found any of your Cameron family in 1881?
Who was GG-GF Robert living with in 1891? and who was the informant on his 1898 DC?
Where was G-GF William's son Robert born in 1900? Liverpool?

You'll find census dates, and much more info, on the link from the TalkingScot Home Page.
