It has been announced that you can enter your details online for the 2011 census.

Thought you would like to know that.

There is a trial run happening for this next year on March 29th, involving 50,000 households on Lewis, Harris and in West Edinburgh. The census in 2011 will be on March 27th. I wonder if the trial results from next year will be kept for posterity? Two censuses in two years - those lucky Gaels!

It will be easier to fill the form in online, but will the information being recorded digitally pose a problem in a hundred years time for future genealogists? Worth thinking about! I'm in two minds whether to do it online and keep the original household return in the family files, or to send the paper version in, having photocopied it first! :)
