1871 census look up

Post by maggie69 » Mon Nov 10, 2008 6:55 am

Looking for Elizabeth Trainor born 1859 Glasgow according to her marriage cert. Parents were stated as Owen Trainor and Mary Ann and not deceased at her wedding in 1879. In the Glasgow area.

I am looking to see where her parents were born Ireland probably and what age they are stated in the census so that I can maybe find their deaths on Scotlands People.

Hi Maggie
Not sure if you've looked already, but the census is also availble on Scotlands People. Or what about the 1881, which you will be able to use freely on disk at your local LDS centre?

In many cases, if the birthplace was Ireland, unless you are lucky, the place of birth may just state "Ireland" with no futher placename.

Best wishes
Lesley

Hi Maggie:

There are 2 census records 1871 for Owen Tra*n*r, second person forename Mary, no location selected, on ScotlandsPeople. One is Mary and the other is a Mary Ann, but if you display that result, you will be able to decide which is most likely the correct one, based on location.

On the IGI http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/ ... search.asp there are two records of marriage for Owen Trainor and Mary by searching:
tra*n*r, owen
mary m*bennet between Jan 1, 1851 and Dec 31, 1851 [no locations selected]

Owen Trainor married Mary McBennet, 25 Nov 1851 in Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland. This is an extract of Church records and is found on the LDS films:
M119755 1851 - 1854 1042943, 0102928 Film 6902528 Film
M119755 1851 - 1854 0102929, 0102930 Film NONE
M119755 1851 - 1854 1042991,1042962

Another Owen Trainer married Mary Smith 26 Nov 1857 in Dundee Angus, Scotland, is a pedigree record.

On the IGI, It may be worth while having a check for Mary Anne mcBennet born 5 Aug 1879, Monaghan, Ireland to James McBennet and Mary Finnegan. This is a pedigree record Batch No. C007336. This may lead you to a possible place of origin for your Mary Ann?

All the best,
Frances

Elizabeth married John Beveridge in 1879 in the Calton Parish of Glasgow. Her parents are still alive at that time. Her fathers occupation was Rivetter. She died in1940 in the Provan Parish of Glasgow.. I have Elizabeth and John in the 1901 census says Elizabeth was born Glasgow.

I am looking to see if I can find them in any previous censuses. I have the 1881 census on CD and cant find them there.

Was trying to find the deaths of Owen Trainor and Mary Ann to find their parents names. Ran out of credits and want to make sure i have the right ones before i go back to Scotlands People

Hello,
These may be yours...
The 1891 Scotland census for Glasgow shows a John Beveridge age 33 occupation baker. He is shown as born in Glasgow but his wife Elisabeth age 31 is shown as born in Ireland, as are their 3 children George age 10, John age 9, and Owen age 7.

Gina
