Hi Lesley
I had a quick look at the Valuation Rolls on the Glasgow Story website for 1913-1914 and the numbers jump from 33 up to 41 (41 being the shop for the Glasgow subway) so I am doubtful that 37 will be there today. I am going down tomorrow and I'll have a look about anyway but I don't think I will find it.
Speak to you soon
Annette

Hello Lesley,lbathgate wrote:Hi Annette
That would be great - if its still there it would be very interesting to know what it looked like.
Thanks
Lesley
Hopefully somebody will come up with something on number 37 but numbers 1 - 35 are shown (in 1964) on the virtual Mitchell site :
http://www.mitchelllibrary.org/ - click on street search.
There are lots of photographs especially at Kelvin Bridge which give a flavour of the life in the early 1900's.

Hi Lesley,
I'd another look at the street index - seems Great Western Rd came under Kelvin & Partick.
The Kelvin list didn't give a number 37 at all. But there was another older (or more used!) street index book which had some differences.
Bottom line being i eventually did find a no. 37! Sadly there was no James McNicol resident there in 1891.
It was at 644-9 Ed 60 - the one you listed Andrew.
Civil Parish - Barony
Quod Sacra - Park
Reg District - Kelvin

No. 37 was on the south side of Gt Western Rd between St Georges Rd & Melrose St.
Jack
ps - but some good news on Daniel 1851!

Hi Lesley
Have just been down to Great Western Road and sadly Nos:1 - 77 have been replaced by the revamped subway station and the motorway thus nothing of interest for you to see. Jack is correct in that the No: 37 would have been between St George's Road and Melrose Street. At Annette M's suggestion I had a look at the Mitchell's virtual library and when I saw the store 'Wood & Selby's' in the frame it brought back so many old memories. I had remembered it to be much bigger than it actually was. Have gone all melancholy now so I best be off
Happy Hunting

AnnetteM - thanks for the link to the Mitchell. It gives a good idea of what it would have been like. Its not an area I'm very familiar with being from the other side of Scotland, so no nostalgia trip for me!
AnnetteR - thanks for looking out for the address. I appreciate the thought & the time and effort.
Best wishes
Lesley
