1861 census Paisley lookup PLEASE .....

Post by Dave Sutton » Mon Jul 18, 2005 8:52 pm

Hi, I was wondering if anyone who has access to the 1861 census for Paisley could do a lookup for me. I am looking for a James Cannavan age abt 40 +/- by 5, and his family. They would or could be wife Catherine, age unknown, Margaret, age 6/8, Mary, age 4/6 and Andrew, age 2/4. The problem lies in whart last name they were using. It could be any one of the following. Canavan, Cannavan, Cavanan, Connoway, Conway, Canavin. In 1871 James was using Cavanan. In 1871 Catherine the wife was not shown and James was listed as a widower but he had 2 children after 1861.

Thanks Dave

Hi Dave,

Alas, the 1861 Paisley census has no name index - an address would be needed.
But if Andrew & Agnes below are "yours", and you have their birth addresses, i could have a look.
They may be different, but hopefully the family will be at one of them.
