Hi all.
I hope I have uploaded a census image from Argyll (Oban) 1851; the household I am interested in is no.135.

Ann Sinclair, widow, stocking weaver? where born??? Is "Duror" a possibility?
Her daughter and niece were born in Kilchrenan, and Ann´s sister I know was born in Muckairn.
Thank you all for any hints.
Guid hunting,
Thrall

Thank you, Keewik, I was really trying to find a better guess than "Duror" as I was not myself really convinced by the scrawl below Oban and above Kilchrennan.
No other capital "D"s, and this word the only unclear one on the page, except perhaps "weaver".
Has anyone any further ideas?
Guid hunting,
Thrall

Hi again Thrall,
How about Durran, in the south end of Kilchrenan and Dalavich Parish.
click here to see on current map
All the best,

Hi Andrew, yes, Ann is a problem!
I had found that '61 entry but was cautious, but on the other hand she did not register her two (at least!) children and was not popular with the good men of the kirk. What makes it even more difficult is that so far I have not found her death, nor marriage, despite claiming to be a widow ´51, but 'unmarried' ´61.
She was said to be dead when my gr.grandfather was married 1873, domestic servant.
Do you not reckon "Duror" then '51? Perhaps your suggestion works, it´s all a little confused.
I have found one "Ann Sinclair" born to Duncan and Christian Sinclair in Muckairn 1813.
Thanks.
Thrall

Hi Thrall,
For what it's worth, I think it starts with a B and ends in a double rr The word-final n's look quite different in this handwriting sample. So... something like B_marr is what it looks like to me. (looks like Bsmarr, but that doesn't seem possible!
Cheers,
Sarah
P.S. Ah, I see that Anne agrees!
