Bit confused with Free Cen

Post by sheilajim » Fri Mar 20, 2009 10:47 pm

Hi All

I am somewhat confused with FreeCen. On March 17, 2009 they announced that they had uploaded almost all of the Stirlingshire Census, including Denny, for 1841. To try it out, I looked for several family members from Denny. I have found these people on the 1841 census on SP. I couldn't find one single one of them on FreeCen.

What is going on here? Has anyone else had this problem?

First off I take my hat off to all at FREECEN - an amazing site with a equally great search engine.

Without knowing your family's name I can't search but perhaps it's as simple as a transcrirtion error. Have you tried searching with a phonetic search on the surname.

Annette

Hi Annette,

I searched for several. One was for my multi great grandfather William Kay. I couldn't find any Kays in Denny. Another was for a gggrandmother Margaret McDonald, nothing there, another was for Janet Dun/Dunn. Couldn't find that one either. Surely they wouldn't all be mistranscribed.

I was wondering if maybe they were not really uploaded at all.

Hi Sheila,
The Kays are indexed as Hay
Margaret is there (if she is the one in the Kay/Hay household)
Was Janet Dunn in Denny also? I see a number of Janet Dunns there.

Sarah

Hi Sarah.

Did you find that on FreeCen? I found them on SP, but none of them on FreeCen. The Kays are Margaret Mcdonalds parents.

Hi Sarah

This is weird. 8-[ I can find them now! I couldn't before.I looked for Margaret McDonald and couldn't find anyone with that name in Denny, also the same with Janet Dunn. Now they are there. I can understand that the name Kay is mistranscribed, but what about the other names? It is not as if I looked for them only once, I looked for them every day since March 17.

Oh well I guess that it doesn't matter, as long as they are there now. :D

Hi Sheila,
Grab them quickly before they get away again! Maybe all of us suddenly searching Denny 1841 on FreeCen joggled them loose

All the best,
Sarah

I hadn't realised that freecen had so much of Stirlingshire on there now.

So thanks Shiela, you've helped me find some of 'mine'.

I hadn't dared look for a George or John Bennie in Muiravonside using SP
