It would certainly make sense but a check for any of the births at SP should confirm if it's the right family or not. There is a Georgina S Mul* MacDonald birth at Bothwell in 1899.anniee wrote:hi annette thankyou for this, im just wondering about elizabeth F D mcdonald could her initials be after her nans maiden name Frew before she married thomas downs

Hi Annie,
If you go to ScotlandsPeople, and search for Elizabeth Frew M*Donald between 1891 and 1901, there is only one result. That should be worth your while investing in to see if it answers your question.
If James was not home at the time of the 1901 census, could he have been away fighting in the Second Boer War (1899-1902)? There is only one death for a James Menzies M*Donald born 1868 ± 10 years, so if he was away fighting, he survived as his death is well after then.
All the best,
AndrewP
