Hello Jack
Many thanks for your help, my goodness they sure moved around and I am hoping that when I am in Glasgow that maybe one of the places will still be there.
:)
Cheers

Little Dovehill & Thistle Street

Post by Jack » Mon Aug 15, 2005 5:27 pm

Hi Margaret,

Little Dovehill is still there - but in name only (possibly it's now a car park).
I think the only buildings today are the two at the beginning - at the corner with the Gallowgate.

Thistle Street is gone, but a Thistle Terrace is now very near to where the street was originally - alas, it's all new housing.

Very many of the tenement buildings in and around the centre of Glasgow were demolished from about the late 1950s onwards.
A lot of areas have had new flats built in their place - but others are just empty spaces :(

Hello Jack
thanks for the info on the streets and buildings not being there anymore but at least I wll be able to get an idea of where they once all lived. Same thing here in aussie, but at least in the centre of sydney town there is still a whole suburb with original housing and woolstores. Of course very up market these days, but still great to walk through and see how it was way back then. :)
Cheers
Margaret

Hello Jack and all

I was really chuffed to see that Little Dovehill had existed as I could find no information on it really.
My GGgrandfather Daniel Laurie and Janet Porterfield lived there in 1863, and young Daniel died there of Scarlet Fever in 1863.
