James Comrie
With further reference to my paternal grandfather James Comrie. His father was David Comrie, b1847 in Kilsyth,a stonemason, who married Margaret Anderson b.9/1/1876 ,They resided in 1891 and 1901 at 40,Newtown Street, Kilsyth. Davids father was Peter Comrie. b.1825-died before 1881. He was a shoemaker in Kilsyth. and married Jean Stirling b.1828. I would love to gain any further information re my g. grandfather David and his father, my gg .grandfather Peter. For example, did Peter maybe have a shoemakers shop in Kilsyth.?? Did David work in a factory as a stonemason? I believe that I have all details of children from both David and Peters family and these can be viewed on my family tree (the Comrie family) on Ancestry. Best wishes. Jas.

Hi JAs
Businesses are usually listed in PO directories.
Also, as I do not use Ancestry for a tree, can you tell us how to access your tree please? I don't seem to be able to access any public trees without having a subscription...
Best wishes
Lesley
Have you checked Post Office directories for the area? For example, did Peter maybe have a shoemakers shop in Kilsyth.??

Unless you have some specific information that suggest he worked in a factory, most stonemasons I've come across were involved in outdoors work - building houses, pavements, structures for industry etc.Did David work in a factory as a stonemason?
Best wishes

David's father, Peter, changed occupations before his death in 1874 (Jean lived to a ripe old age living until 1909).
At the Time of his death, aged 50, Peter was a Sanitary Inspector, married to Jean Stirling. His parents are named as Peter Comrie a shoemaker and Margaret McInnes as reported by son, Peter.
IGI has one child to this couple:
1. DANIEL COMRIE - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Christening: 01 MAR 1832 Kilsyth, Stirling, Scotland
Thing is Peter aged 15 is with Father, Peter, a shoemaker, and his wife Janet?? in 1841. So what happened to Margaret.
Another wee search finds that Peter died aged 76 in 1867. This shows that he was married twice, 1st to Margaret McInnes and then to Janet Finley.
His parents were James, a tailor, and Christine Leckie as reported by son, Peter.
