1911 census

Post by Carolann » Sat Aug 22, 2009 11:54 am

Hi

When does the 1911 census come out - is it next year or 2011. Its just I cannot trace a Henry Fredrick/Frederick - he is 18 in 1901 census and was a apprentice bricklayer. He was born April 1872 in Greenock and have tried to trace him without any luck - have hit a brick wall.

Hi Carol
For Scotland I believe the 1911 will be made available after spring in 2011. Normally it would be 2012, the year following the end of the year representing the 100yr closure, but I think as far as I remember that it will start to appear in 2011. I'm sure Andrew will know more precisely!

Best wishes
Lesley

I suspect your Henry might be this chap since there are no births in Scotland of a Harry or anything close in a range of years to include 1884 other than your Henry b. 1882. Then of course the bricklayer occupation also caught my eye.

Name: Harry FREDERICK
Date of departure: 24 May 1907
Port of departure: Glasgow
Passenger destination port: Quebec, Canada
Passenger destination: Quebec, Canada

Date of Birth: 1884 (calculated from age)
Age: 23
Marital status: Single
Sex: Male
Occupation: Bricklayer

Best wishes

According to the following document from the General Register Office for Scotland, Spring 2011 is as precise as it gets just now for the release of the 1911 census.

Now for an extreme imagintion stretch.....possible this might be your Henry in 1911 but only a POSSIBILITY!!

Name: Fredrick
Gender: Male
Marital Status: Single
Age: 28
Birth Date: Apr 1886
Birthplace: Scotland
Relation to Head of House: Roomer
Tribal: Scotch (Scotish)
Province: British Columbia
District: Vancouver
District Number: 12
Sub-District: Vancouver City

The first name is an inital only and the image quality is quite poor so that I'd not hazard a guess. Ancestry has given no first initial or name in their index but there is something written on the original. The fact that this fellow was born Scotland...the fact he is working as a Carptenter and living with others with the same occupation....ie he was engaged in the building trade which might correspond with bricklayer skills (i know a stretch!!)...also the fact that the month of birth is April and your Henry was born in April even though the year of birth is not a match.......all add up to make him a possible contender....

Best wishes

May as well keep pushing on here....

An immigration to the US record:

Name: Harry Frederick
Arrival Date: Jul 1907
Age: 23
Birth Date: abt 1884
Birth Country: Scotland
Gender: Male
Race/Nationality: Scotch (Scotish)

Port of Arrival: Eastport, Idaho, USA

His occupation is stated as bricklayer. His destination is Tochty, BC and his father's name is HARRY who lives in Greenock Scotland. Any chance Charles was ever called Harry????? How much of a limb am I on here  ....?????

Since Charles was dead by 1907 I'm wondering if I've led you on a wild goose chase!!!

Just gotta figure out who is HARRY!!! :?

Best wishes

Thanks Andrew for changing.

Jean

I am wondering if Henry would leave without his original birth certificate as I have the original

I know his uncle Robert and Aunt Margaret went to Ontario in 1880's ( in census) and then they moved to Matriot Michigan -

Regarding his father being called Harry - don't know as his father and grandfather were known as Charles - grandfathther came from Berlin and was married in Greenock on 26/02/1836.

I have asked my mum if she can remember anything of a Henry but she can't - she thought one of the Fredricks went to Swansea (Nellie) and another went to Harrowgate but she is not sure.

I tried to google ship departures for May 1907 to see if it came up with anything but no luck will try again.

Thanks for takinrg the time to look - he is my mystery and keep picking it up and having a look every so often.

Thanks again

Just go to this website and scroll down to the bottom of the page and enter Harry Frederick in the search fields and you'll easily find his death in 1948. You'll be able to view the original certificate online for free. Seems the middle initial J stood for Johnston.

Needless to say I'm convinced he is your Henry.

Best wishes

Carolann, you have the original old falling to bits document?

He may well thought the original lost, and so may have gotten proof of birth from the GRO to travel with.
