Maggie Fisher was born 5 April 1866 in Dalry, Ayrshire to Samuel Fisher and Agnes Young. She’s not with the rest of her family in Courthill Street, Dalry in the 1881 census, but there is a 24 year old Margaret Fisher recorded as a lodger in Courthill Street, Dalry in the 1881 CDs. I would like to check if this is my Maggie, with her age mistranscribed. Would anyone know if I will be able to access the original 1881 census rather than the LDS transcription when I visit NRH in September?
Many Thanks,
Carole

Hi Carole,
NRH has the full set of original 1841-1901 censuses on microfilm (apart from the few that are known to be missing and hence are also missing from the LDS CDs). If the microfilm is difficult to read, you can request to see the original book.
1871, 1891 and 1901 are also available as onscreen images of the census pages - the same as you can view at www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk - that saves you having to manually wind miles of film through a microfilm reader.
All the best,
Andrew Paterson
