Jeanie Goldie Haining

Post by Bob Haining » Wed Nov 04, 2009 8:14 pm

I’m looking for the 1901 census of my great aunt;
Jeanie Goldie Haining, born April 14, 1884 in Catrine, Ayr (registered as Jane Goldie HANNING)
1891 census she’s a visitor in Catrine (with her mother and brother)
August 1, 1905 she marries Richard Weir Stevens in Calton, Glasgow. Jeanie is listed as a Power Loom Weaver.
She dies April 23, 1928 in Hampstead, London.

I’ve found a 1901 census for a Jane Haining in Kilwinning (GROS 599/00 005/00 006), but that isn’t my Jeanie.

I have the birth of all her children. This is the last bit of information I need on this lady, I’d appreciate any help I can get.

A search for a Jane Ha*ing reveals a 16-17 year old female in Anderston Glasgow in 1901,
have you looked at that one?

And there is a Jean Ha*ing somewhere in Ayrshire of a similar age.

Have you found her Mother & Brother in 1901,
you didn't mention thier names or ages.
Wilma

Hi WilmaM,

I just had a look, the Jane Ha*ing in Anderston is "Mary Jane Harthing and the Jean Ha*ing is the Jeanie in Kilwinning that I'd already checked. But thanks for looking.

I have her Mother (Cecilia Goldie Haining, age 56) living in Irvine and her Brother (my Grandfather Thomas Goldie Haining, 20) is living with a half sister, also in Irvine.

This has been a puzzle for a number of years.

Hi Dave,

Not to my knowledge, but both my great-grandfather and great-great grandfather had 8 children each, all born in Ayrshire, so it is possible.

Hi Dave, still no connection, although my Dad was also named John, born in Old Cumnock in 1903. He also married a Janet, Janet Kirkwood.

Hi Mary,

Thanks, but that is the one I had found, she is listed as a sister-in-law, to my knowledge there aren’t any Reid’s in the Haining family.

This lady has been a problem and making life difficult, this is the last bit of info I’m looking for.

I guess this could go into “Success Stories”. Jeanie Goldie Haining has been found in the 1901 census.

She was found by Dave Stevens, Jeanie’s grandson (my second cousin). He found her under the name of Jeanie Goldie, working as a Domestic Servant in Dalry.

As the story goes, NEVER GIVE UP.
