Re: 1861 Stevenston
Hi Steiner
or are they brother and sister?
Ayrshire is 100% for 1841 census on Freecen- no luck there? Or have you already found them in 1841 & 51? Or perhaps you've found them on later census years?
Have you tried a search on Ancestry or on SP for 1861 and not been able to find them? If so, it helps if you can tell us whicih ones you have already checked and found them NOT to be the ones you are looking for.
Can you give us a bit more on Elizabeth Barton? e.g. how do you know about her - did she marry, did she have children etc?
Best wishes
Lesley

Hi Lesley
I think I may have found them in Stevenston in 1841 and am confirming this with a relative. Margaret's maiden name was Barton. We think Elizabeth was her mother.
regards

Hi Steiner
I'd be doubtful that Elizabeth Barton would appear in the 1861 census - she'd be quite some age for thsoe days, and although some folk did live that long, life expectancy was not as long as we expect today. You might be lucky and catch her in 1841 - certainly worth a try on Freecen, just incase.
Best wishes
Lelsey

Elizabeth is transcribed on Ancestry for 1851 as "Elisabeth Barlam". She is living with her sister in Saltcoats. Looks like longevity runs in the family!
