Post by george » Mon Aug 15, 2005 7:32 pm

Hi everybody :D

I need any information from 1841 census for my 4Gparents.

I know this:

They lived in Lewis, may be Lochs (most probably), Carloway or Stornoway, least probably in Barvas or UIG.

Head, Malcolm McLeod
Wife, Mary McLeod (ms Mciver)
Son, Norman McLeod, age about 10 in 1841.

Any can help? Please [-o<

Unfortunately the FreeCen Scotland project has yet to get round to Ross & Cromarty, - see http://home.chilitech.net/~mmjeffery/myweb9/index.htm

Hi David :D

I knew about FreeCen, but I was doing my homework!

And I found the site of Terry Sheppard a Genealogist of the New Zeland Society of Genealogists named Rely´s 4 u. The link is:

http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~relys4u/

In this site there is a very important transcription of the census of 1841 from Ross and Cromarty (Lochs, Stornoway, Barvas and Uig), Inverness, Argylishire, Bute, Orkney, Caithness and Shetland (several parish in all of them).

This site is great!!!!

Meanwhile FreeCen is accomplished this site is the reference for some Parishes.

Best regards, George

Thank you for mentionning that site, George. Might well help me to find my way through the maze of my Barvas MACLEODS, John, Murdo, Roderick, Donald and all.

Happy searching
