1841 census-Middle Greenock .....

Post by angel » Thu Aug 18, 2005 5:01 pm

Hi

I need a census lookup please for 1841 Middle Greenock Renfrew. The family is John and Margaret Kennedy and they had a daughter Margaret who would be about age 15. I would like to know if there was any other siblings and if the parents were a yes or no for being born in the parish.

Many Thanks
Heather

Hi Heather,

Can't see a John & Margaret KENNEDY together at all in Greenock (nor nearby Port Glasgow),
and there are only these 2 Margarets that are near what you need.
Neither are with parents, and are living with other families.

Taylors Close.
Margaret KENNEDY 20, semptress, b RFW

1841 Greenock East, Ed 112 p 8
Crawfords Dyke Main St.
Margaret KENNEDY 15, female servant, b RFW

Your Margaret was born abt 1826, but if she was one of the youngest children then her parents could've been having chidren from say early 1800s.
This would make them born maybe 1785 - or even earlier, so by 1841 they could've been at least 55yrs, and possibly even a bit older.
But all just supposition.

There is this Margaret - but could well be nothing whatsoever to with your family.
1841 Greenock Middle, Ed 59, p 16
Split Close.
Margaret KENNEDY 60, b IRE
George KENNEDY, 25, seaman, b RFW
[possibly still in Greenock 1851, but aged as 73 & 40]
Maybe to eliminate them try finding their DCs - ie if either survived to after 1855.
