Hi Gary
Don't know if you are aware of this, but you should be able to access Ancestry at either a local librbary (if they offer Ancestry access) or at the Mitchell Library in Glasgow. Ancestry do not have any images for the Scottish census data, only transcriptions. If you do not want to go into Glasgow you can always take out a short "pay-per-view" subscription to collect the documents you want; 12 record views for 14 days costs £6.95.
It is better if you are able to access the records yourself as then you can print out or save any pages which you want to keep for your research. Sometimes going through the WW1 records to find someone can be very time consuming, so allow yourself plenty time. Also, sometimes there are a great many pages in a WW1 service record, so the pay-per-view option above may work out a lot more expensive than the bus/train into Glasgow.
Best wishes
Lesley
