The England/Wales Census records for 1911 are the forms filled in by the householders. I have just loaded down my first 1911 Scottish Census record and find it seems to be the enumerator's summary - which looks very different to the summaries for England - did they do them differently and was there any reason for this?

Re: 1911 Census format
Hi Trish,
The household form is what the enumerator gave out to each household before the census and collected after the census. He then transcribed the information from that form into his enumeration book, which is what you are seeing on the ScotlandsPeople website. The Scottish household forms were destroyed, presumably soon after the census was completed (see SP website for more info on that). The English household forms were kept, and it is those which have been digitised. There are probably English enumeration books out there in some record storage facility somewhere, but these have not been digitised.
All the best,
Andrew

Re: 1911 Census format
Thanks Andrew - there is some sort of a summary sheet on Ancestry, it must be different to the enumerators books. In many ways the enumerator books are better as you can see the neighbours - but it was interesting to see the householder forms with their own handwriting etc.
