Hi All
Why can’t I find any of my McDonald ancestors in the 1911 census.
I am looking for
Robert born 18th Dec 1882 married Isabella Clark 3rd Dec 1909 in Perth
Alexander born 13th June 1886 married Mary Melville Finlayson 26th Nov 1909
William born 26th Feb 1889
Ann Sharp born 3rd Jan 1895 moved to Aberdeenshire 1926
All born Muthil Perthshire
I have spent a small fortune looking for the above and cannot find any of them
Any assistance would be gratefully appreciated
Yours Aye

Re: missing from 1911 census help
Hi Bruce:
Searching:
Entering ages 28-30, drops hits to 1. Adding District Perth drops hits to zero.
Omitting the ages and adding the District of Perth only, drops the hits to 3.
Searching:
Entering ages 24-26 drops hits to 20. Adding District Perth drops hits to zero.
Omitting the ages and adding the District of Perth only, drops the hits to 2.
Searching:
Entering ages 21-24 drops hits to 61. Adding District Perth drops hits to 2.
Omitting the ages and adding the District of Perth only, drops the hits to 17.
Searching:
Entering ages 15-17 drops hits to 9. Adding District Perth drops hits to zero.
Omitting the ages and adding the District of Perth only, drops the hits to 11.
I don't see anything in the SP notes on the 1911 census about ages being 'rounded-up' or 'rounded-down' as was done in some other census reports.
It is adding the District, rather than the ages to the search that brings the result to zero in 3 of the 4 searches. I'm thinking it is likely that for Census night, Sunday, April 2, 1911 they were away from Perth.
I would check the list of matches comparing
Locates 185 matches.
Entering ages 15-17 drops hits to 9.
against the list of matches for
Locates 512 matches.
Entering ages 24-26 drops hits to 20.
to see if there was a match in locations between the two. It might be worth the 2 credits.
Other than that, would there have been a family wedding or death around that time, which would have seen them all away? Could they have moved away temporarily since you know that they died in Perth?
Hope this is a) understandable b) helpful
Frances

Re: missing from 1911 census help
Hi Francis
Thats the way I tried
The 2 you found for Robert in Perth I purchased the certs and none of them are mine.
Alexander I know worked in the Muthil area until he joined up at the start of the 1st world war was wounded at the first battle of the Somme then moved his family of ten to Aberdeenshire.
Ann Sharp MacDonald moved to Aberdeenshire on the death of Alexander's wife in 1926 I presume to look after his children.
William because of the amount of results I have left alone for the moment.
I will keep trying.
Thank you for your assistance
