Post by momat » Thu Apr 21, 2011 6:35 am

Getting frustrated trying to find my lot on this 1911 Census having tried all sorts of searches and no results
At the rate I am spending I will be in the POOR HOUSE.

Hi
I have to agree, already spent loads on my lot and found some with surnames missing letters. I think a trip to Edinburgh and the SP Center is the only way to resolve the situation :-#

Smid
Dunn, Rough, Smith, Bruce, Paterson, Paton. Wylie,
Stewart, Reid, Gardiner, Rollo, Turner, Dutch, Laing, Forsyth, Robb, Hardie.
Kennedy, Kandow, Winter, Vollum, Hastie.

After much delving will have to admit that this one was not Scotland's People's fault as my relative has given the census taker his names reversed so all the family are listed under his forename, but did turn up another child to them who I can't trace after the 1911 Census,so back to square one.

I have had few hard to find ones, even worse than in 1901 and i have more information on them in 1911 as well.

Best find has to be my gggrandfather he was a policeman in Partick and stayed next to the police station, so in his entry all the people in jail are listed as living next door. I did check them in case any other relatives were in there :P

So, I'm not the only one having bother with this census . My family don't seem to exist . Costing too many pennies !

I think that we have come "FULL CIRCLE" In terms of language barriers as when the likes of my Ancesters who had no English when they gave their names on arrival in U K from Europe, we now have people with English as a second language taking the details for transcribing hence all this complete and utter mess .
You only have to phone a call centre for information these days and you hear an Asian voice.
I think we should all change our names to NUMBERS for future identification.

I kept plugging away, trying variations of the surname ( SANNAGHAN). I've had problems with it before, 'till a TS member helped me out.
Finally, I tried the wife's name.........result ! I don't know why there was no match for the husband OR children. I used the same spelling,
for all, but there you go, worth a try. =D>
