1911, searching for a Smith on Ancestry...

Post by LesleyB » Sat Apr 30, 2011 9:47 am

Hi all

Hoping someone can clarify something for me here.

I'm searching for a Smith in the 1911 England census, (logged in, no membership - just looking for the moment - if I see anything promising I will check it out on my next library visit) but the search box in Ancestry does not seem to give me anywhere to put in a date of birth, even though they suggest narrowing your results by this method; obviously with a Smith, there will be hundreds of results, but without a birth year to limit the results, I'm faced with thousands!!
Where am I supposed to type the date of birth?

Best wishes
Lesley

Hi Lesley,

Ancestry do not have the household schedules on line yet only the summary books which only give a summary of the household.

This page has some useful hints on how to get free information out of the 1911 site but probably not so useful for Smiths.

Thanks all for the replies - looks like Ancestry is not the best choice of search tool for this one at the moment...
