1841 Census Lookup - Margaret Russell .....

Post by FionaZ » Wed Sep 07, 2005 3:54 am

Hi,
I am looking for the 1841 Census record of Margaret Russell aged about 15. She should be with parents Robert and Elizabeth Russell and perhaps a brother John aged about 13. They may be in the Tollcross/Shettleton area. I am hoping there are older siblings also.
I can find Janet, Thomas and Robert born to a Robert Russell and Elizabeth Robertson in Westthorn, Barony but can find no birth record for Margaret on the IGI.
Regards, Fiona

Do you know of any relatives Robert Russell had. The reason I ask is I have a Marion Russell in my tree born in Barony 1832. Her father was John Russell and there was also a Robert Russell who witnessed the birth. It may just be coincidence.

BTW if you have a William Russell in your tree who married in 1850 Barony then I've got the OPR record for that too.

Hi Rab,
I haven't done too much with the Russell side of my tree - there are so many Robert Russells!! I will look out for Marion and William Russell but I have not come across them yet.
Regards,
Fiona

Hi Jack,
Thank you so much. You are a star!! I am so glad Robert and Eizabeth were still alive in 1861 so I can look for their death records.
Thanks again
Regards,
Fiona

Fair enough Fiona. If I discover any information which looks like it may link to your tree concerning the Russells I'll post back in here.

Hi Fiona,

Any chance your Russell family includes a Martha Russell and Margaret Russell, two sisters the daughters of John or james Russell and mary ms Schofield of Glasgow.. The two sisters married two brothers, George and Peter Mitchell? the Mitchells are 'mine'!

Hi Tish,
Sorry no! MY Margaret Russell's parents were Robert Russell and Elizabeth Robertson. I can't find her birth as it was pre 1855 but I do have her DC. She married John Clark(e) in Shettleston on 5th Apr 1846. Her sister Christina married John Speirs.
I see you are in Ireland.... the grandfather of John Clark(e), Thomas Clarke was born in Ireland but there the trail stops!!

Re census info

Post by Jack » Thu Oct 20, 2005 11:45 pm

Hi Tracey,
Unfortunately not.... just wish it were so! I use CD indexes (mainly west of Scotland) to try and find a name.
I then have to visit The Mitchell Library in Glasgow to look at the film rolls.

The various indexes are mostly only a name, age, & census area.
Some have a bit more info, but a look is still needed of the original page to get all the details.
