I recently downloaded a census page for Beath - Hill of Beath Colliery, while tracking a family called Mill. (Mary Dick married a Mill) When I opened the page in my image editing program a chunk at the bottom equating to about a quarter of the page, was missing - so at least one family was just not visible. Supecting some "hitch" on download, I downloaded it afresh. Same prob. Contact form sent. Received the following reply today:
Lesley,
I have looked at the image which you searched for. The image is not an entire page but does include all the information for the people you searched for (John, Mary and Robert Mills). The only information missing is the information about completely different occupants of a different family and a different address. I have made the Registry Office aware that this page is not complete so that they can check to see if the missing data is indexed to this image or is simply listed as missing data. I have also noticed that the next few pages of this census are missing and passed this information on. [my use of bold]
Thanks for bringing this to our attention,

.......Hmm. I'm not entirely happy with this - I replied:
Hi Dave
Yes, luckily the family I was looking for were just above the missing bit! However, I have found in the past that sometimes, if you are fortunate, there may be relatives, often with a different surname living close by and even in some cases, next door. I doubt that is the case with this page, but it is always wise to keep an open mind and expect the unexpected.
I'm very glad to hear that by bringing this to your attention some other researchers should not encounter the same problem.
Best wishes
Lesley Bathgate
I was concerned about the missing info, but it seems the situation is worse than I thought! So... if your Beath colliery ancestors (or heck, maybe anywhere else for that matter!?) seem to have been abducted by Aliens, might this explain a few of them??
