Was wondering if there is someone going to the Mitchell Library that could look up an 1861 census for Glasgow/Clyde. I have a William and Rose Law that resided at 136 Saltmarket Street. According to the index the details are to be in 644/5 8-19. If anyone would take the time to look this up I would be most appreciative.
Thank you,
Darlene

I will be going on Saturday and, unless Jack gets there first, I will have a look.

Re: 1861 census
Hi Darlene,
I've a terrible memory at times, but that's no excuse!
My fullest apologies on this - the marker in a notebook to look for Andrew LAW/LOW had fallen out, and it'd completely slipped my mind
Also in the notebook is to check 32 Orr Street too.
Annette, i'll also be up at The Mitchell on Sat morning - can't manage before this.
Easily recognised; grey hair, in his own wee world, green shoulder bag - but not the matching slingbacks
Jack

Re censuses
Hi Darlene,
Managed to fit in an early morning visit to The Mitchell - but to no avail.
Still no sign of Andrew LAW / LOW in 1851 or 1861 at 32 Orr St, or 136 Saltmarket.
--
1851 - Nos. go from 30 to 34; no number 32, and no Andrew at 30 or 34.
1861 - now there is a 32 Orr St, and with 22 pages of residents; but again no Andrew.
1851 - 136 Saltmarket; no Andrew.
1861 - 136 Saltmarket; again no Andrew; only son William LAW & wife Rose TAIT.
--
So it seems that Andrew wasn't in the Glasgow area 1851, and always the possibility that he never left Ireland.
Maybe once SP put the all earlier censuses online you may find him - but my personal thoughts are it's doubtful; but i would like to be wrong.
Jack
ps, apart from Glasgow, i've also checked Ayrshire, Dunbartonshire, Lanarkshire, & Renfrewshire in 1851; sorry to say, nothing suitable.

thank you
Thank you ever so much for taking the time to look, it was very kind of you.
As you stated once the earlier census material is available there is that remote possibility, but I am beginning to think he either didn't leave Ireland or he had passed away before they went to Scotland.
Thank you again,
Darlene
