I am revisiting my problems with Philip Harper born to Hannah Dobbie Harper January 1902 at 30 Reid Street, Dunfermline.
( See previous topic at viewtopic.php?f=6&t=15996&hilit=philip+harper)
I have looked again at the 1901 census for 30 Reid Street Dunfermline and found it had multiple occupancy. I have also discovered one Andrew Philip (or Philp as it seems to say), linen lapper, born Dunfermline, residing there, which has got me wondering.....
However his age is not clear; I read it at first as 22 but am now thinking it might be 52.
What do others think?

As an added problem, with an age of 22, I can't seem to trace him forwards or backwards with any degree of certainty.
Best wishes,
Meg

Re: Andrew Philip?
Hi Meg,
I increased the screen view magnification to 400% and I believe he is listed as Andrew Philp, age 52.
Philp is a surname in its own right, but I would expect it would be easily mixed in the records with Philip, which in turn could mix with Phillip, Philips or Phillips.
All the best,
AndrewP

Re: Andrew Philip?
Thanks, Andrew.
I feared so; a 52 year old Philp doesn't sound as attractive a candidate for the father!
Best wishes,
Meg

Hi Meg
Like Andrew I enlarged the image and was able to compare the enumerators 5's. He was remarkably consistent with them.
Too bad he doesn't fit the bill

Re: Andrew Philip?
I know, Russell!
Such a disappointment; I think I saw the age as 22 because I wanted to
Best wishes,
Meg
