Hi everyone, I have a simple question, please, that a quick search didn't answer.
Is it possible to search the Scotland's People Census records for a particular address? I have a relative who used a false name when enlisting in WW1, and subsequently appears to have given false information about his next of kin, giving 8 Maberly St Aberdeen as the NoK's address. I wanted to search the 1911 census to see who lived there, but I don't know how to do it. I've tried entering "Maberly" as the filter word, but that doesn't seem to work.
If anyone can help me, that would be great. Thanks.

Re: Can I search by address?
Hi unklee,
The census doesn't give an address search, but the valuation rolls do. A search of the 1915 valuation roll gives 5 tenants, and their landlady (5 times). So the implication is that 5 households were at that address in 1915. You can do that much free of charge - the valuation roll index search is free of charge - it only costs if you want to see the page(s).
You could try searching for these names in the 1911 census to see if they were there then, and who else was in these households. That is at the standard ScotlandsPeople charges.
All the best,
AndrewP

Hey thanks Andrew, that's a cool work around. I'll do that. (Love a quick turnaround!)

ScotlandsPeople don't make it easy to find the street indexes on their site, but using their site search facility and entering simply street will enable you to find the 1911 street index for Aberdeen and we find that Maberly Street is in Registration District 1681 and house numbers 2-46 are covered in Enum. Dist. 54 ... which should help you with the results from searching with the names you have. At least it will allow you to see whether any of the search results might be relevant without clicking on each one and having to spend 5 credits on wasted views...
