Have you tried searching with her maiden name as well as her married name?
You don't mention her age or her 1st husband's name or where and when he died
where she was born might help narrow it down.

Remember to search for Ann[e] too.

Hi Cathy,

The death of John Brooks can be found in Glasgow (Dennistoun) in 1908. For a Glasgow death in an unknown area, if there is one in Dennistoun, I would often pick that one first - that is where the Infirmary was. That worked for John Brooks - he died in the Infirmary. See also the RCE for supplementary information concerning his death.

From his age at death in 1908, you can calculate his expected age in 1901. There is a John (born Glasgow) of an appropriate age with a Maria (born England) in Glasgow (Milton). Their two daughters who are listed on that census page can be found in the births of 1899 and 1900. Their ages on the census page are unclear, but I think say 1 year 5 months, and 4 months. The parent details on the birth certificates show that the census page is for the correct family group that you are seeking.

On the basis of the parents marriage year, and the birth dates of these two girls, it is reasonable to believe that there were more children. One more can be found in the Glasgow (Milton) deaths if you search for birth year 1897 ± 2 years for a death between 1896 and 1901. An RCE provides supplementary information regarding her death.

All the best,

AndrewP
