Looking for 1841 Census Rattray .....

I wonder if anyone can tell me if there is a copy of the 1841 Census for Blairgowre/Rattray area that I could buy/access -anything really. It's my last hope of making sense of my Dad's ancestors. Thanks

Providing that particular census isn't one of the "missing" 1841 returns like Cupar, Fife, you should be able to order it for a small fee from your local LDS family history centre - not sure where you are based but you can find your nearest one at:

In some ways, although its great to get a quick "fix"(!) sometimes its better to see the film than just get a summary of the family you are looking for. Seeing the census area on microfilm gives you an idea of what the area they lived in was like, who their neighbours were, how densly populated the area was, typical occupations etc. and gives you a rounder understanding of the times and place where they lived. ...and sometimes if you are lucky you can spot other relatives "just down the road" while you are at it!

The 1841 census for Rattray (district No. 389) and Blairgowrie (335), Perthshire were both filmed twice by the GSU / LDS, so are not amongst the missing ones. So Joan should be able to order them in to view at the nearest LDS Family History Centre.

Thanks for the offer:
The surname is Fraser - 3 sisters Barbara born c1813 Bendochy, Euphemia c1819 Rattray and Ann (my ancestor) c1823 Rattray. I know that by 1851 the three sisters all had children and were all living together with their children in Blairgowrie village. Ann stated that the father of her child born in 1843 was William Fraser, but I can't trace him. Nor can I trace their parents John and Marion Fraser. The 1841 is my last slim hope of making sense of this side of my family.

Sorry no luck today with your Frazer folk, I had a quick look at the Rattray census
But the only one I could find was Isabal Fraser age 25 (not on your list) a lot of the census pages are easy to read but some are very faint so they could still be there but you would need to spend some time on these pages yourself.
I also had a quick look at the Bendochy and Alyth census and again no luck; the only Frazer I saw was Catharine age 20 in the Bendochy census.
Of course they could be in the Blairgowrie census or some of the other ones close by.
Rattray and Blair are right next to each other so that may be the place to start.
Ran out of time today or I would have had a look at Blairgowrie
