This is not at all urgent but if you happen across a David Wilson born about 1809 in the 1841 census for Barony or, more likely, Glasgow I'd be grateful if you could find out whether he was born in the County or not.

The family were:

David Wilson (possibly a game dresser) born about 1809
Helen (Miller) about 1812 (born Falkirk)
James Watson 1832 Barony
Adam Miller 1834 Barony
Margaret Miller 1837 Barony
Thomas 1838 Barony
Helen Miller 1840 Glasgow

David and Helen later had:

Elizabeth Burnside 1842 Glasgow
David 1844 Glasgow
Alexander Miller 1846 in Glasgow

This family used a fairly strict naming pattern, Adam Miller was Helen's father, Margaret (Miller) Miller was Helen AND David's mother (different Margaret Millers). Thing is I can't figure out where James Watson and Elizabeth Burnside come in!

David senior died in 1847, I've seen the headstone, erected, much later, by son, James, who became a very wealthy Boilermaker. He also placed headstones for his paternal Grandparents, David Wilson and Margaret Miller plus a few more in Falkirk for his maternal grandparents, Adam Miller and Margaret (Miller) Miller and Mother, Helen (Miller/Wilson) Haggart (she remarried and moved back to Falkirk).

Confusingly a James Watson Wilson and Elizabeth Burnside from Ayr and later Paisley also produced a David Wilson in 1797. I've tracked him and can see no obvious relationship but Watson and Burnside must be fairly important because at least two of the sons also named children James Watson and Elizabeth Burnside.
Searching for Keogh, Kelly, Fitzgerald, Riddell, Stewart, Wilson, McQuilkin, Lynch, Boyle, Cairney, Ross, King, McIlravey, McCurdy, Drennan and Woods (to name but a few).

Also looking for any information on Rathlin Island, County Antrim, Ireland.

HI Andy,
Here's David WILSON & family in 1841 - not a game dresser though, but born outside the County.
Pity he died before the 1851 census, i'd have liked to have seen his age and birthplace - you too no doubt!
Included Helen in 1851 & 1861; i know you may have them, but in case not.
The three Wilson children are as sons & daur to John Haggart in 1861, but we know what's meant!

Many thanks for that Jack. I hadn't seen the 1841 census and was basing my age from the headstone.

The age of 40 fixes him firmly in the right age band for James and Elizabeth Burnside's son, David, but, like I said, I've tracked him down.

I've never been able to track down Adam or Margaret, looks like they died pre-1841.

By 1861 David was perhaps already working in Colreine (brother James had links there too), Ireland as an apprentice plasterer where he met and married my G-G Grandmother Martha King (Martha's family had moved to Port Glasgow well before then) Before settling in Port Glasgow and later Greenock.

The fact that the father, David, wasn't born in the county is very interesting. There was a Barony birth to the named parents around 1809. Perhaps I have the wrong headstone!

Thanks again I owe you!

Hi Andy,
I dare say you may already have these details, but in case not.
Always very sad to see children dying at such a young age.
Andy wrote:I've never been able to track down Adam or Margaret, looks like they died pre-1841.
Calton Parish Church - Burials.
Adam Miller Wilson (14 mos) buried 18 May 1836. Consumption.
Margaret Miller Wilson (6 mos) buried 20 Aug 1837. Water in head.
Helen Miller Wilson (14 mos) buried 20 Feb 1842. Decay.

--
Mrs. Elizabeth Burnside or Wilson (84yrs 4mos) buried 23 Feb 1843. Aged.
--
The three children are buried in the New Ground (Centre),
Elizabeth in the Old Ground.

Jack
ps.
This is the nearest suitable i can see for an Elizabeth in Glasgow 1841 - from FreeCen.
The area is Calton, and the age could be near enough if rounded down.
But no proof it is the same lady who was buried in 1843.

Re Calton Burial Records

Hi Cathy,
It's one of a few name index burial CDs produced by the GWSFHS.
http://www.gwsfhs.org.uk/

Part of the Scottish NBI (National Burial Index).
http://www.gwsfhs.org.uk/content/projects.aspx

Many other Family History Societies also issue their own local pre 1855 burial indexes.

The CDs are very useful in that you don't need to scroll through the film roll...
...and always best to look at the original to see if there is some other info.
Like the OPRs though it's just your luck on the details given - some are better than others.

The NBI is mentioned over on this TS post.
