1861 census .....

Post by chasward » Sun Oct 02, 2005 7:43 pm

Charles Ward & Unity McGinlay, were married at St Columba Gaelic Church in Glasgow, Jan 31 1841.
Census 1871, I have Charles & Unity with three sons,
John 22
William 19
Patrick 17

Between marriage 1841 & Johns birth 1849, I'm sure there must have been more children
I'm hoping they will show up in 1861 census or earlier. Any assistance greatly appreciated.
Charlie.

Hi Charles

Can't assist with the earlier census records but hopefully someone can. There is one child from the IGI to this couple that maybe you already have.....

ANN WARD
Female

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Event(s):
Birth: 10 FEB 1857 Bridgeton, Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland

Parents:
Father: CHARLES WARD Family
Mother: UNITY MCKINLAY

Perhaps she didn't survive until the 1871 census...or she was working/living out of the home by then.

Best wishes
Jean

Many thanks, Jean & Liz, for your responses. I did know of Ann just didn't want to muddy the waters. It seems they had a very long honeymoon, before birth of first child.

Thanks again,
Charlie.

Some censuses

Post by Jack » Mon Oct 10, 2005 4:12 pm

Hi Charlie,
I don't know if this 1st one is "yours" or not, but i give it anyway as he's the best match for a Charles with wife's name similar to Unity.
Ages are a wee bit inconsistent, but that's not unusual.

Many thanks Jack for your time & effort, much appreciated.
I guess I'll have to accept the fact, if they had any children prior to what's been listed, they didn't survive.
I take your point re. 1841, Eunice' is certainly closer than her marr. cert. name "Uney".
Where they made their bricks, was the Mauldslie Brick Works, on the corner of Springfield Road & London Road, backing up to Belvidere Hospital. A "hod", skip & a jump from Celtic Park.

Thanks again Jack, regards
Charlie.
