Finding Birth.....

Hi Folks,

After countless attempts on SP I am unable to come up with the birth of my Great Grandfather. Would one of you kind people out there please do a search and see if I am being stupid or if his birth was not registered.
I have posted his Marriage and Death certificates in the gallery albums under Skywaves Uploads.

Hi Skywave,
Can't see your G-GF Hugh McSKIMMING's birth record in the IGI.
All i do know is that he was born in Mauchline, Ayrshire [probably wrong - see below] abt 1845/1846.
Though i dare say you know that! And this looks like his father Peter - you probably have this too!
His mother Mary McNEISH being born abt 1816 Kilmory, Arran.

Thanks for that, not sure about the the IGI listing of Mary McNeish as the wife of Peter, I have the spelling as McNish, but I will keep an open mind.

Hi Ron,
You may have these, but in case not. Seems G-GF Hugh McSKIMMING could well have been born East Kilbride.
But being brought up in Mauchline may, in his early adulthood, have thought he was born there.
Parents Peter & Mary moved about a bit, so possibly that's why they never got round to getting their children's births/baptisms recorded.
You're very wise in keeping an open mind when it comes to our ancestor's names! Sometimes there can be many variations.
