Hello Maggie
I wonder if it might be worthwhile looking for Robert and family in Old or New Monklands on the 1861 Census. On the Broomknoll Parish Church, Airdrie (New Monklands) Cemetery Inscriptions, there is a Robert Love died 13th June 1862 aged 56. My own Lanarkshire family tended to move around amongst the mining villages or towns of the area.
One of my Livingstons married a Margaret LOVE who had an Isabella, Jean/Jane and William amongst her siblings, but a generation later than yours. Will keep note of yours, just in case a link shows up.
Happy searching

Hi Maggie,
Earlier census details now added.
You mention a possible gr-son James? 11 in 1861 (it's actually gr-daur Jane 11).
When you're not too sure if a name is male or female look at the age columns - boys to the Left, and girls are always Right
Jack

ps, Gr-daur Jane LOVE 11 in 1861 may be the daur of John LOVE (b1826 Kilsyth) & Jane/Jean RIDDELL (b~1825 Airdrie).

Robert Love - MI 1862
Hi Maggie,
That was an interesting Airdrie MI that Catriona found for Robert LOVE 56yrs, d 13 Jun 1862.
Also mentioned is a Jean MILLAR 43yrs, d 28 Nov 1841.
Other 2 names on it are John LOVE 39yrs, d 5 Oct 1865, and Jean RIDDLE 67yrs, d 18 Jun 1891.
It looks like the above John was maybe a son? - might be worth looking at this Robert's 1862 DC to see if Jean MILLAR was his wife?
And also John LOVE's 1865 DC to see if his mother was or wasn't Isabella YUILL.
There is only one Robert LOVE age 45-65 in all Lanarkshire 1861 - with Isabella at Mount Pleasant Cottage.
If Jean MILLAR was Robert's wife, and also John's mother, then i've been wrong with the parents of Gr-daur Jane 11yrs in 1861.
John LOVE & Jane/Jean RIDDELL/RIDDLE had children -
Robert b~1845 Bothwell
John b~1847 Bothwell
Jeanie b1849 New Monkland (ie Airdrie area)
Isabella b1852 New Monkland
plus James 1854, Margaret 1856, Mary 1858, Janet 1861 (all b New Monkland).
The 1851 Old Monkland census has this John LOVE 25, b Kilsyth, STI.
And in 1861 at New Monkland aged 34 as b Banton, STI (this is just east of Kilsyth).

Hi Maggie,
I like it; a Love-Bird marriage! and here they are in 1881.
--
1881 Census Place: Old Monkland, Lanark, Scotland
Dwelling: Spring Arden Cottage Merryston
Source: FHL Film 0203699 GRO Ref Volume 652-2 EnumDist 13 Page 27
John BIRD M 29 M Pollokshaws, Renfrew, Scotland Rel: Head Occ: Provision Merchant
Isabella BIRD M 29 F Airdrie, Lanark, Scotland Rel: Wife
Jeanie BIRD 7 F Coatbridge, Lanark, Scotland Rel: Daur Occ: Scholar
John BIRD 4 M Coatbridge, Lanark, Scotland Rel: Son
Isabella BIRD 2 F Coatbridge, Lanark, Scotland Rel: Daur
Grace BROWN 15 F Strathaven, Lanark, Scotland Rel: Servant Occ: Domestic Servt

So it would seem that the Jean MILLAR who died in 1841 is related to Robert LOVE through his mother.
Just glad she wasn't his wife!
Still chuckling at that marriage Jack

Re: James yuill farmer in 1851 newlands east kilbride .....
How interesting to find this thread 9 years later! In 2005 I happened to be researching my LOVE ancestors who emigrated to New Zealand.
Robert Love (b 1845 Bothwell) emigrated to Central Otago, NZ with his brother James Miller Love (b1854 Airdrie). Their parents were John Love & Jane Riddell. John's parents were Robert Love & Isabella Yuill
Robert is my GG Grandfather, he resided in Ophir (originally Blacks) and then Poolburn in Central Otago. His Brother James lived not far away, on a farm (Willows) near Alexandra. I believe they both tried their hands at mining in the area during the boom and were later farmers.
I am particularly interested in where my Scottish ancestors are buried? I've looked at all the burial records I can find and haven't spotted John/Jane or Robert/Isabella...
Cheers,
Anita
