I am far across the sea -- but ma hert will ever be -- at hame in dear auld Scotland wae ma ain folk --
Could some kind person please do a look-up for me?
Either on the 1841 or 1851 census for the following:
CORNER, Andrew
County: Midlothian/Edinburgh
District: Canongate - I think it would be the 685/03 area
Andrew would be about 31/32 on the 1841 census and about 41/42 on the 1851 census.
Wife's name: Janet
Children: Lillias
George
If you spot any other Corners in that area, that would be an added bonus.
Thank you so much
Sarah
I am also researching the following:
Smith, Pasco, Brown, Mason (Leith), Weir (Caithness), Anderson (Edinburgh/Canongate)
Please! Lookup 1841 or 1851 Census Canongate Midlothian ....

I had a quick look on FreeCen : http://freecen.rootsweb.com No sign of Andrew.
I then search just of 'Corners' 1851 didn't come up with any in the Area , but the 1841 census was much more obliging
This one looked interesting:
Piece: SCT1841/685 Place: Canongate-Midlothian Enumeration District: 16
Civil Parish: Canongate Ecclesiastical Parish, Village or Island: Canongate
Folio: 16 Page: 21
Address: South Back Of Canongate
Surname First name(s) Sex Age Occupation Where Born Remarks
CORNER George M 55 Cabinet Maker Midlothian
CORNER Elizabeth F 25 Midlothian
CORNER Lillie F 8 Midlothian
That was the only family in Canongate, there are others in St Cuthberts, Edinburgh or Dalkeith.
To search for them select 1841 as the year, and Midlothian as the census County, and enter surname Corner. I can take a while to come up but be patient.
I hope these will help a little, perhaps in the future, Welcome to Talking Scot
