Post by AlanMC » Wed Nov 09, 2005 11:58 pm

If anyone has any of the 1861 and 1871 census for Wigtownshire could they do a look up for me.

Looking for the following family who were still together in the 1881 census.

James Blain b 1824 Leswalt.
Elizabeth wife b about 1824.
Margaret day b ablout1845 Stranraer.
James son b about 1850 Stranraer.
Ellen or Hellen dau b 1864 Stranraer.

I can place this family for the 41 / 51/ 81 and 91 census, just need these two to complete this family.

Many thanks for any help.

Alan

Hullo Allan

If you go to

www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk

you'll discover that the 1861 and 1871 Census are both now online.

All the best for your research.

Don't know if you need the following info but James Blain and Elizabeth Ewart had a daughter, Elizabeth in the magic year of 1855.

You only mention three children but six are recorded:

1. MARGARET BLAIN - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Female Christening: 18 FEB 1845 Stranraer, Wigtown, Scotland
2. JAMES BLAIN - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Birth: 01 MAY 1859 Stranraer, Wigtown, Scotland
3. MARY BLAIN - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Female Birth: 07 MAY 1866 Stranraer, Wigtown, Scotland
4. ELLEN BLAIN - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Female Birth: 08 MAY 1864 Stranraer, Wigtown, Scotland
5. AGNES BLAIN - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Female Birth: 13 NOV 1861 Stranraer, Wigtown, Scotland
6. ELIZABETH BLAIN - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Female Birth: 03 NOV 1855 Stranraer, Wigtown, Scotland

All proper extracts.
Searching for Keogh, Kelly, Fitzgerald, Riddell, Stewart, Wilson, McQuilkin, Lynch, Boyle, Cairney, Ross, King, McIlravey, McCurdy, Drennan and Woods (to name but a few).

Also looking for any information on Rathlin Island, County Antrim, Ireland.

Hi Andy

you are right about the other children, I also have the birth cirtificate for Elizabeth in 1855. The reason I never gave their names was the others had married and moved on so were not at the house in the 1881 census.

When I was at Park Circus the other day I did come across a new member of the family to me, but believe or no no name was giving on the death cirtificate just ----- Blain. It was for a baby that only lived for 12 days, sad eh.
Thanks for help.
