Hi:)
Would there be an address that I can write to, or would it require hiring someone to go somewhere to look at it for me?

You can search it yourself online, - see http://www.rootsweb.com/~sctdfsfc/Dennis wrote:Hi:)

The search page is at http://freecen.rootsweb.com/cgi/search.pl

Hello David.
Yes, I had been there to FreeCEN; but with no success.
I had tried here as well, but by then he was already married and there is no mention of either of his parents:

Hello David.
I suppose that since the FreeCen search comes back with either nothing for David Richardson or his dad Archibald, in about 3 seconds, that I had thought there was an error on my part. If I did a freecen search just for Richardson it times out on me.
Anyway, I've decided to just give up on the whole family tree thing.
All the best to all on TalkingScot.

Hi Dennis
Just to confirm your fears.....the FREEcen came back empty handed on me too....and a search for any RICHARDSON timed out. Soooo....this means one thing....well probably one thing....they just weren't there in 1841 for the census! (I'm assuming here that the census for Tinwald was complete
)
I did a little check and it looks like Tinwald is right next door to Torthorwald (where the first child was christened) but Torthorwald isn't available on FREEcen to search. That leaves you with two choices. Wait for the 1841 Indexed Census to become availabe on SP...which really should be sometime this winter????.....or.....find your nearest Family History Center and go in and order in microfilms of the 1841 census for this area (Torthorwald and surrounds) This last option isn't all that great as you really don't know where they are because they aren't where you think they should be (does that make sense?
)!! If it were me.....I'd put them aside and wait for the indexed 1841 to come online.
We'll be right here when you decide to pick up the tree again....
Best wishes
Jean

Okay; I posted the wrong url; my bad. [Corrected in original post TSAG]
This is the one I meant to post.
http://www.dumgal.gov.uk/historicalinde ... &ref=4%2f8
I have emailed them to enquire as to the possibility of David Richardson having resided there with one or more parent prior to his marriage to Janet Graham in 1843 in Tinwald.
I should have proofread my post when I entered the incorrect url.

Hi again Dennis.....from the URL to the 1851 Tinwald Census you can see that David states he was born in Applegarth.....which is another Parish up the road a piece
As a matter of fact he might even have been in Applegarth in 1841....so another logical place to look.....however you can't yet because FREEcen doesn't have them online either.....
This link shows you just what parishes of Dumfrieshire are done.....so you see.....it may be a toss up..waiting for FREEcen...or waiting for SP....

Best wishes,

Hello Jean
I can wait it out
I have so many branches on the tree that I can redirect my focus to another.
I sent a query to Dumfries and Galloway Council; and they replied
with the following:
Thank you for your email. I have passed your enquiry on to the appropriate person to deal with, who should reply directly to you. However, if you do not receive a reply please contact CIS@dumgal.gov.uk
