1841 Glasgow Census .....

Post by Caroline » Fri Nov 18, 2005 4:10 pm

Looking for help with finding more relations in the 1841 census for Glasgow please.

This time it's JAMES WALLACE (24) from Ireland, his wife MARGARET (23) also born in Ireland and their son WILLIAM (2) born in Glasgow. They were probably in the Bridgeton area.

Also looking for James parents, WILLIAM and MARGARET WALLACE. William was a soldier in the 42nd Foot.

Margarets parents were JOHN OSBORNE, who was a weaver, and Mary. Not sure if they remained in Ireland or not.

Thanks,

Caroline

Hi Caroline,
Can't see a William WALLACE to suit; there is this Margaret - but it's not an unusual name, and may not be yours.
Though no harm in knowing of this lady anyway (but she's not in the Bridgeton area 1851).

Nor can i see John OSBORNE and/or wife Mary - possibly, as you say, still in Ireland.
Maybe it was only some of their children who came to Scotland?
You'd have expected those 3 unmarried children to be with their parents if they were here too.

Thanks very much for that Jack

As you say ther's no way of telling if Margaret Wallace is mine, but I'll definitely keep a note of her anyway. I had no info on the Osburne family though so that's given me a few leads to follow up.

Just disappointed ther's no sign of William Wallace - don't think I'm going to get much further with that line unfortunately.

Thanks again

Caroline
