Does anyone have access to the 1851 census for Edinburgh?
If so, I would love to know if my gt gt grandmother appears on it, I know my gt grandfather was born in 1841 and his brother in 1844, but by the time I trace them later, gt grandfather was in Derby when he married in 1863, then the next time I found gt gt grandmother was in 1881, she was then remarried, and I would love to know if she brcame a widow early on, so the 1851 census would hopefully give me a clue as to that?
Her name was Euphemia Grant (nee Nelson or Neilson) she married John Grant in 1841, my gt grandfather being born in Oct 1841 (not long after the marriage) I can only find a reference to another son John Peter being born in 1844, that was on the IGI, but I could not find any more references to him, so if he did not appear on the 1851, it could be a clue that he probably died as a child.
gt gt grandparents married in the St Cuthberts area, and gt grandfather was also born there, so I am presuming that they were still there in 1851, so if anyone could supply a reference to the family for 1851 (or even 1861) that would be an enormous help, I would love to know more about their earlier lives, I do not have a clue as to when my gt grandfather went to Derby, I am unable to find any trace of him on the 1861 census for here in England, so have to assume he must still have been in Scotland, he has proved to be a very elusive person, every time I find him referred to, he is in a different place!, in 1890 according to a report on my grandmother when she was in a childrens home (in Canada as an "orphan") she said then she was NOT an orphan, but her father was then living in Birmingham, I had previously found him, his wife & my grandmother in Perth Scotland for the 1881 census, he was in B/ham in 1890, then in London for 1891 and 1901 census, he finally died in Leicester in 1919, a much travelled man by the looks of it!!
So if some kind person could supply me with any of the above info, I would be very very grateful, thank you

Hi Maud
The SP web site says the 1851 census will be online by Jan 2006, so that will be in the next couple of weeks then...if you believe all you read!
Let's hope its there soon.
Noticed your recent Copeland entry in a certain well known family history magazine. Hope you get some useful feedback from it.
Best wishes
