Missing frim 1891 Census.....

Post by ASGROOMBRIDGE » Sat Nov 26, 2005 9:49 am

Good morning everyone from a snowy Wiltshire,

I have been looking on the 1891 census for my great grandfather Hugh McGowan, wife Mary and children Janet, Andrew and William and so far no luck at all. I have them on the 1901 Coalburn Lanarkshire and I have Hugh on the 1881 living with his parents in Boghead. He married in December 1801 and lived in Kirkmuirhill.

I seem to be doing something wrong or is it possible that they were missed on the census. :?:

Hi Audrey,
I had a problem with my Jones family not being anywhere in the 1861 Census. I emailed Scotlandspeople and gave them all the information I had on the family - where they were in 1871 and where they were living when their latest child was born and asked whether they could look and see whether they had been omitted from the index. They passed the request on to Eileen Thomson at the GRO who very kindly looked at the original Census and sent me a photocopy of the relevant page. She said the index would be corrected some time in the future.
Hope this helps!
regards, Fiona
