I am looking for two David Borthwicks (father and son).
David, 55 (approximately), Seaman for the Royal Navy, married to Rachel, 54, Laundress (?).
David, 34, Tailor, married to Marion, 30 and their two children James, 6, and Rachel, 1.
Though David senior was not listed in the 1861 census, his wife Rachel (noted as widow) was listed as head of household with son David and his children: 18 Rutherford Lane, Barony, Glasgow.
Rachel Borthwick, Head, 64, Laundress (formerly), Lanarkshire Glasgow
David Borthwick, Son, 44, Tailor, Lanarkshire Glasgow
James Borthwick, G. Son, 16, Painter, Lanarkshire Glasgow
Alex Borthwick, G. Son, 9, Scholar, Lanarkshire Glasgow
Andrew Borthwick, G. Son, 1, Lanarkshire Glasgow
Rachel Borthwick, G. Dau, 11, Lanarkshire Glasgow
Margaret Borthwick, G. Dau, 4, Lanarkshire Glasgow
Thank you.

Hi Kelly,
Please note spellings; can't see David junior in Lanarkshire 1851.
Alas Rachel was a widow by 1851, and can't see her in Glasgow 1841.

Hello Jack,
I apologize for taking so long in responding to your post. What with getting the flu
and then the holidays, this is the first time I've even turned my computer on. My email inbox was so full I'm surprised I was even able to open it.
Anyway, thank you very much for looking up that information for me. All the households you listed are my people.
-1841 Census, David Bothwick household - O conner V. Bothwick is actually Marion Vincent O'Conner Borthwick (Bothwick). She is in fact the Marion Borthwick m. to Robert Parry (and their children) that you mention at the end of your post.
-1851 Census, Elizabeth Clark household - Elizabeth is in fact Marion (age 30) Borthwick's mother. Elizabeth was first married to James McMurtrie, father to Marion, and then Archibald Clark whom she married in 1831, which makes Isabella Clark and Alexander Clark half-siblings to Marion. I knew about Alexander's birth however Isabella is a new name that I can add to the tree. Oh joy, another person to research! Also in the same household is a listed a James Wylie, lodger, b. Ayr. Elizabeth Clark's maiden name was Wylie and she too was born in Ayr. Could he be a distant relation to Elizabeth? Hmmm, the possiblities abound.
Over the holidays I received the poor relief information for Marion McMurtrie Borthwick
and in it she states that her husband deserted her.
The poor relief application was dated 1860 which would explain the separate households for David and Marion. Could he have possibly left the house as early as the 1851 Census? All I know is that in subsequent census' they are living in separate households.
Again, thank you for your time and effort. Have a great day.
Sincerely,
Kelly
