Alien Abduction? .....

Post by pricech2 » Wed Dec 28, 2005 4:31 pm

I can't find my 3xG grandfather and the whole of his family in the 1861 census.

Peter COMRIE and Jean STIRLING were married in Kilsyth in 1845, and the family were in Kilsyth in the censuses of 1871, 1881, 1891 and 1901. One of their sons (William) was born in Kilsyth in 1862 and Alexander was born in Kilsyth in 1858 so I have no reason to believe they are anywhere else in 1861.

I have extended my search to the whole of Scotland and can't find any of the family anywhere. I even had my English husband check Ancestry for me and no sign of them there either.

Has anyone any suggestions?

Christine

Hello Christine,

the aliens renamed them Connie for 1861, but Kilsyth remained the same.

Christine, in case you haven't got this - there's a wheen of Comries in the 1851 Kilsyth index. These look like yours ?

COMRIE - Peter age 26, Jean age 23, Peter age 5, David age 3, Daniel age 2 and wee Margaret age 11 months.

No other info on the index except they were all born in Kilsyth.

There's another 3 Comrie families, plus a family of Commries. If you think any of them might belong to you, let me know and I'll give you the info.

Best wishes.

Hi Pinkshoes,

This is my COMRIE family - thanks very much. As far as I know, all the other Kilsyth COMRIE families are related, so I'd be very interested in their names and ages from the 1851 census index.

Thanks again .............Christine

OK here come the Comries, all born Kilsyth unless otherwise stated :

Family 75 : Peter age 61 Muthill PER, Janet age 58 Dunblane PER, Daniel age 19;
Family 63 : John age 30
Family 62 : Marrion age 28 Cumbernauld DNB, Daniel age 5, Marrion age 4, David age 3, Margt age 2m

then Family 1 - your earlier names

The Commries are :
David age 61 Muthell PER, David 26, Christen 24, Alexander 20

Hope that helps.

I was brought up in the Kilsyth area, so if you think I might be able to help with local knowledge, let me know.

Regards

Thanks Pinkshoes.

Family 75 is almost certainly the father, step-mother and brother of "my" family. The other families are probably related, but I don't have all the links in place yet.

Thanks again ..............Christine
