Censuses Carnwath Lanark .....

William Gordon from Bathgate West Lothian and Margaret Ormiston from Carnwath Lanark marry 1 Feb 1833 in Carnwath. Margaret died in 1880 and William died before then.

Their children are Agnes Gordon b 1833, Elizabeth Hall Gordon b 1838 and Wilhelmina Gordo born 1840. All born in Carnwath.

I have 2 of the children from 1881, 1891 and 1901 in West Lothian and Edinburgh.

I wonder if any or all of them appear in any earlier censuses in Carnwath.

If anyone has access to these I would be grateful for a look up.

Looks like a wait for SP's all Scotland Census for hubby William GORDON - not with Margaret in 1841.
(can't see the family in Lanarkshire 1851 though)
Seems they possibly had a son too - Andrew?
There were another 2 ORMISTON families in Carnwath - will be very surprised if not "yours"!

Margaret Gordon(m.s. Ormiston) had parents James Ormiston and Agnes Watson(from her d.c.)

These will be the folks listed first(my g g g g grandparents!!) The Elizabeth there, aged 40, is my Margaret's sister.

The John in the second entry could be a brother, but is not shown on the IGI. A little digging there, I do feel.

I have never been able to find a death for William Gordon. I only know that he died before Margaret. I suppose it's possible he died very young and that's why he's not on the census in 1841.

I'll have to wait on SP to get the 1851 and see who is there. They may have moved to West Lothian by then.

Wierd thing is I have another family, called Neil, who moved from West lothian to Lanark and their 1881 address is Rootspark

The name rang a bell as soon as I saw it and I had to go ferreting to see who it was who had lived there!!

The Carnwath OPRs are one of the parishes that the LDS have put only Female records on the IGI.
And in case you ask i don't know why!
But Andrew will be there in 1835 if you look at the film.

That explains why John, aged 35, on the 1841 doesn't appear on the IGI.

He probably is Margaret's brother. His d.c. will confirm/deny this. I'll wait for the 1851 to come on line to see where he is and also narrow down the dates to search.

From Jack's census details you will see James and Agnes Watson aged 79 in 1841. These are my gggg grandparents.

Couldn't go further back on James as he's not on the IGI as an extraction. However there is a submission for a James b 1760.......about the right age for James aged 79 in 1841. Parents James Ormiston and Jean Dickson.

Can I trouble you to look for these parents on your discs with James born abt 1760 and any other children.

Big question now........If they are there, is it safe to assume that I have found my ggggg grandparents. Have never got back that far with any of the other lines!

There are 3 births to James and Jean (Dickson) ORMISTON...but not a James! This makes you really wonder whether the submitter had other evidence to prove their claim .....as they didn't find it in the BIVRI
