If someone has the 1851 census for Roxburgh I would really appreciate a look up.I'm looking for Andrew Haldane 30 blacksmith, wife Elizabeth and son Robert Henry Haldane abt.3.
I found Andrew living with a family named Brown in 1841.He was still single and an aprentise blacksmith.I found on Robert's marriage cert.that his father was born in Rox. and was a journeyman blacksmith .I can't find Andrew's BMD nor Elizabeth. And I can only find their son Robert's marriage and death.I have no idea if Robert had any siblings so I haven't been able to try going sideways.
Thanks HK

Middleton Family
Hello Heather,
I see you have Middleton’s in your family. Any originating from the Culsamond/Inverurie, Aberdeenshire area, all through the 1800’s.

Hi Bob,Elizabeth is my first Middleton and if the rest are going to prove as much trouble...just joking.Seriously,if I didn't have her sons wedding cert.I wouldn't know anything about her.I've found 8 in Rox.at the same time Andrew was there.Though only 2 are the right age.I think I'll just have to check them out individually.I'll let you know how I get on.

I thought I had found a way through my Andrew Haldane brick wall yesterday but alas he is still an inigma.I did fin out that Elizabeth Middleton his wife died and he remarried an Isabella Carson Scott.Still can't find anything else on the family though. On his death cert.his parents are listed as Andrew Holdon and Mary McNaughton a Thomas Holden signed the cert.so I assume he is Andrew's son along with Robert Henry.I can't understand why I can't find any of these people beyond RH marriage, death and children.I can't get past 1870.Does anyone have any ideas?I use variations of the Haldane name (for over an hour last night) but no go.

Hello again Bob,Meant to get to you earlier but we've had a comedy of errors here today ending with my husband giving last rites to our mouse while I was logged on to the site.I popped out and we now have a jimdandy rodent next to our comp.In trying to find my elusive Andrew I keep going back to his wife Elizabeth Middleton. It would seem that just about every one I found was from Aberdeen or the surrounding area.As I have not found Andrew hiding out down there I assume she might be one of the young lassies working in the Rox area at the same time as Andrew.
It's something else for me to look into anyway.

Re: Fleming 1871
Hello Billy,
The 1871 census isn't as yet name indexed; but if you have a possible address you could look at the Glasgow street indexes. The Mitchell Library has these from 1841 to 1901.
The library is an excellent source; Family history page is at -

The staff are excellent - very helpful.

Robert Henry Haldane
Hi Mary.Yes this is my Robert. Here's what I know.
My gr.gr.grandfather Robert Henry Haldane born about 1845 in Hawick to Andrew Haldane and (as of about 5 minutes ago)Elizabeth Welsh.
Robert married Jane McIlwee 4 April 1870 (both Andrew 1867 and Elizabeth 1860 )were deceased.Though Andrew had remarried in 1862 to Isabella Scott.
Robert and Jane )whose parents are William McIlwee and Prudence Stewert) had :
Robert Henry Haldane 15 Dec. 1875
Andrew Haldane 25 Feb.1877
John Haldane 20 July 1879
Thomas Haldane 23 Oct 1882
Jane Haldane 23 March 1885
They all lived in Neilston
Then one day quite by accident I found a Prudence Stewert Haldane
Turns out she was born 7 July 1873
so I wanted to know why she wasn't on any census.I found her death cert.
6 July 1875.Before Robert was even born.On the same page was Elizabeth Haldane Died 5 July 1875.She also was born before Robert
20 July 1872.
From there it was easy to trace the family to me.Heather Elizabeth Haldane.
My problem was Andrew and to some degree the Robert you mention.I can't find Robert's birth and have no idea if he had siblings.I think I may have Andrew's wedding to both wives and his death .(just found them tonight and I'm still on cloud 9
)
I couldn't even find Jane's family. It's been very frustrating and I had to color my hair twice thanks to them.
I thank you for going through so much trouble. If I can ever return the favor let me know.
Have a good one(I am

Middleton Family
Heather,
It appears most of my Middleton family members stayed in the Aberdeen/Moray area. I’ve been able to account for all of my known Elizabeth’ s and it doesn’t seem any ended up in the Roxburgh area. Did have an Alexander Middleton b. 1902 who become a pro footballer sometime in the 1920’s. Lived in Leith then. Died in Buckie in 1991. Haven’t pursued that aspect of his life yet.
