Help crack this tough nut.

Seeking death of Robert Campbell.
This is all I have:

1901 Census: 644/05 Blackfriars 022/000 016
46, College Street, Glasgow.
Robert Campbell, head, age 51?, Recruiting Sergeant-Govt., born Midlothian, Edin.
Caroline Campbell, wife, age 50, born Gibralta, G&E ( Gaelic & English speaker)
Mary Campbell, daur., Sewing machinist, age 20, b. Malta.
Victoria Campbell, daur., Sewing machinist, age 18, b. Ireland.
Patrick Campbell, son, scholar, age 10, b. Ireland.

His wife Caroline died 1931 Dalmarnock Road. Widow of Robert Campbell,
Shipyard Timekeeper. Her parents are named as Dominic Ochello and Theresie Martinez.
When daughter Victoria married 1904, Robert was Steel Work Timekeeper
and mother Caroline is named as Bird. I've had the dictionaries out and can see some sort of translation (Italian Uccello = Bird). But can't see how she would be speaker of G&E.

B.Cert. of son John confirms mother Carlotta Ochello, and parents married 1872 Gibraltar.
